Story behind the song
This is about a girl I was trying to get to know, but uncontrollable circumstances got in our way to sweep us away in different directions. I know I said I wouldn't be doing any more rap, but this one is a good track lyrically so I could hardly re-write the lyrics to change the style.
Lyrics
This life is like a journey / Through cold, empty space For long, dark ages I drift / Without seeing a face That reflects something in me / A desire, a need To break out of my orbit / And at last be free. Dimly, I see a light / In the endless waste Is this Venus approaching? / Do I detect a trace Of life, of hope, of love / In her gaze? Are the stars re-aligning / To begin a new phase? Slowly, softly / As we draw near We send out probes / To test the atmosphere And find we can breathe / And that there’s nothing to fear - Now divine harmonies / Are all I can hear. At last we meet / On our orbital paths Our world’s collide / And our bodies attract But this is no near miss / We make contact and kiss Now my mind is lit up / With celestial bliss. Then all too soon / Gravity pulls us apart The universe intervenes / And we’re forced on separate paths But with memories to sustain me / And hope in my heart I’m certain one supernova / Is only just the start. We’ve gotta find a way / To break this system’s grip We’ve gotta break out of orbit / Yes we’ve gotta eclipse This impersonal power / With the most personal there is If we act as one / There’s no way to resist. We’ll be free, yeah... We’ll be free. Let the sun be extinguished / We’ll still thrive in the dark So long as we’re together / We can strike our own sparks. We’ll be free, yeah... Yeah, we’ll be free.
