Story behind the song
I wrote this when I was about 26 and feeling a real pressure to do the normal things, you know, get a job , have a career that pays well, settle down...rather than pursue my music. I felt like I was giving up the truest part of me. I felt like the real me was fading away and I was drowning in the expectations of my parents and society. The "knot " that "slips away the man I was in younger days" is a tie, which is also like a noose that was choking me and killing the life I thought I was to lead. Kind of melodramatic , huh? That was the way I truly felt though with my whole life ahead of me and this one moment of picking a path that would send me on my way to the rest of my life. Took me a while to record it in a way I liked it. In particular, couldn't quite figure out how the drums should go.Ironically, I think it is some of my best drumming!
