Story behind the song
A song about the shape of the world today, and who's fault it is anyway. Written after a 45 minute conversation about society taking responsibility for that which it feeds upon. For instance, at its peak, The National Enquirer sold more issues than the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times -- combined. ...and yet we blame the papparazzi for the death of Princess Diana?
Lyrics
It’s not my problem, you’re not my victim Who’s not in charge here? Could it be you? What if it mattered? That’s how we meant it What if they told us? What would we do? Someone is laughing, someone is crying Someone is trying, nobody knows No-one is watching, we have a TV Everything’s perfect, that’s how it goes Nobody else wants or needs to take the blame "To each his own" -or was it? "Deep inside we’re all the same" Some say "That’s just the way it goes" and isn’t that just a shame? Everything’s deeper than we imagined What was the reason? I can’t recall There was a window we used to look through We can remember nothing at all Heavy decisions, too many circles No more surprises that would be rude All of a sudden everyone’s watching Waiting to see what we’ve misconstrued Nobody else wants or needs to take the blame "To each his own" -or was it? "Deep inside we’re all the same" Some say "That’s just the way it goes" and isn’t that just a shame? All types are taken, we make the means here What were we born with and what have we learned? Do you remember holding the handle? Cursing the candle when it had burned? Fall in filtration lose your illusion Damn the confusion! Which one is real? Tattered and shaken, were we mistaken? What have we made and how do we feel? Nobody else wants or needs to take the blame "To each his own" -or was it? "Deep inside we’re all the same" Some say "That’s just the way it goes" and isn’t that just a Isn’t that just? I said isn’t that just a shame?
