Story behind the song
the final stanza is a verbal representation of the opening of the old stop animation classic, "Davey and Goliath," by Art Clokey of "Gumby and Pokey" fame.
Lyrics
They say the world rests balanced on a turtle’s back. What’s it stand on, the skeptic asks? another turtle the reply, which sits upon another, comes the answer with a sigh. And that upon one more, I thought you would have guessed it’s turtles to the bottom each bigger than the next. And when they topple over its by starts and fits by woman’s beard, by fish breath and black bird’s spit while the sun walks the horizon, orange as a pumpkin’s dream, carved out and waiting for the final Halloween. The faceless trumpet blows and the rocket’s glare all red while stars and shards rain down upon Goliath’s head.
