I was watching a Monday Night Football game and trying to figure out how to use my new multi-tracker. When I was laying down different guitar tracks, I kept remembering my old church's basement from my home town. In my vision, the floor was just beautifully gleaming. That's how I came up with "Pine Soul". That, and years of listening to Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies album.
