Singer Poet Teacher Pagan Nerd
I've been a singer, guitarist, percussionist, and songwriter for Celtic-American folk rock band Emerald Rose since 1996; my major instrument for the band is the bodhran, or traditional Irish frame drum. Being a singer-songwriter, however, has been part of my musical life since I was a teenager, and my solo endeavors return to this root. Many of my songs take their inspiration from the mystical path, Earth-centered spirituality, and Celtic mythology. I also continue to sing songs from the Celtic and American folk traditions. In addition, I'm a storyteller, stage magician, and former actor and dancer, so I have many performance skills to draw on.

Story behind the song
I wrote three of the stanzas after bicycling up to the top of Conner Pass on Dingle in Ireland.
Lyrics
Cast Away Lyrics by Arthur Hinds Echoes drew me from the dawn up sylvan hills by will and brawn in lecturing winds, my strength but gone, the pass around me lay Ancient voices in the mist Answering nature's lyricist I hear my inner voice insist I cast myself away Cast away into Her rising tide Her greening Earth--hearts opens wide Feel Her singing light the dim with pagan grace and nature's hymn Stand in the wind Let your spirit rise up Cast away Surrounded by Her glory seen Her rounded hips lay full and green The Voice of here and in between cries that She holds sway By verdant breasts of ancient youth, by wisdom's thumb against my tooth, so bound by unrestraining truth I cast myself away Cast away into Her rising tide Her greening Earth--hearts opens wide Feel Her singing light the dim with pagan grace and nature's hymn Stand in the wind Let your spirit rise up Cast away If time should fade this moment's hold through doddering steps as truth laid old, I'll loose Her names, a kiss retold and wake this pagan play Cast away into Her rising tide Her greening Earth--hearts opens wide Feel Her singing light the dim with pagan grace and nature's hymn Stand in the wind Let your spirit rise up Cast away copyright 2008 Arthur Hinds
